NOLAFF: Day 3-5

Well on Sunday and Monday I mostly watched weird little short films that generally underwhelmed me...

I went to a screening of "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push'" and I found that movie to be difficult to get through but pretty rewarding in the end. I'd recommend it as a rental but not necessarily as a theater experience. I actually missed Francis Ford Coppola's newest film "Tetro" due to my bike chain breaking en route to the theater... so that saddened me...

They also had a "Louisiana Filmmakers Day" where they'd have little shindigs for filmmakers. The only issue was... no one showed up... so I networked with like 2 people... one guy who just wanted to speculate on RED Scarlet and Epic all day... and the guy who runs Swelltone Labs here in NOLA that does Audio Post for features. The guy, Larry does all of the Post Supervision on Steven Soderburghs films... all of them. So that was cool.

Then came Tuesday and I saw John Krazinski's (Jim on "The Office) directorial debut "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men". Wow... terrible movie. There was some great acting, mainly due to the fact that it's mostly monologues... but they try to tell the story in a non-linear fashion and it jumps from the chick who is the main character having relationship issues and the different "interviews" all out of order and it makes no sense.

The interviews are really erratic too, going from a guy who seems gay talking about women, another who cries out "Freedom for the Democratic Forces or Freedom" when he ejaculates, a british dude who I think got molested, a guy talking about his father working in a mens bathroom his whole life, a guy talking about fantasies, and John Krasinski's monologue about a girl he slept with who told him a story about how she was raped by a psycho and willed it to be a good situation... and the british guy would walk around breaking the fourth wall and telling the audience random things about what he thought women wanted... just an utter mess of a film...

But then I got the EPIC AWESOMENESS that is "Best Worst Movie" followed by "Troll 2". That was some of the most fun I've ever had at the movies... definitely go see "Best Worst Movie" if it comes near... and if it comes in a two-punch with "Troll 2" even BETTER!

Later I'll review the last 3 movies I watched "The Baader Meinhoff Complex", "Bronson", and "Thrist". Oh, and Joel I expect the same from the NHFF!!!!!
