  3. Well I don't have much of a list. Out of Johns Top 10, I've only seen Inception and How to Train Your Dragon. I just don't seem to make it to the theatre often enough, and when I do, I'm going with people who want to see something less than appealing.
Some of my favorites from this year are Inception, Shutter Island, Book of Eli, Despicable Me, and Due Date.

  4. Well now that I have seen most of the big award movies for the year, I think I can make a good list. I haven't seen The King's Speech or Never Let Me Go yet...I'll get to it.

    - Social Network - I don't think I've liked a movie this much in a very very long time. If you haven't seen it yet...do it! (comes out on dvd/bluray this week)

    - Robin Hood - I stand alone on this one. This was such a great movie. I've watched it like 8 times now. Love, love, love it!

    - Harry Potter - What can I say? I love that they split this book in half. Made for some great moments for the characters.

    - Scott Pilgrim - Dude....YES!

    - How to Train Your Dragon - Dang was this a great movie. Awesome story with downright great visual effects. Was stunning in 3D.

    - Ondine - This was a beautiful film. A great example of myth interwoven into reality. Loved every bit of it.

    - The Fighter - Saw this movie just a few hours ago. AWESOME MOVIE! Christian Bale and Amy Adams are stunningly awesome.

    - Black Swan - Saw this a few days ago. What a crazy crazy movie. Very Aronofsky.

    - Buried - Wow...this is one of the best suspense movie I have EVER seen. Sooooo good!

    - 127 Hours - Danny Boyle returns and makes one hell of a great movie.

Other GREAT movies of 2010: True Grit, Inception, Shutter Island, Let Me In, Book of Eli, The Crazies, Green Zone, Hubble 3D, The Karate Kid, The American, and The Town.

So yeah, there's my list. They are in no particular order, but I have to say that Social Network was my favorite of the year. Such a well made movie. Love every bit of it.

  5. I was really surprised by "Book of Eli"... great performances and interesting twist at the end. I liked that the film kind of played the middle ground when it came to religion and faith, and allowed for people with different points of view to take away a message. Played to the duality of the necessity and dangers of religion.

"Shutter Island" was also a fantastic suspense piece. I knew what was happening 5 mins into the film, and I think that heightened my enjoyment... i knew Marty was fucking with my head and I was along for the ride. It was fun seeing Scorsese play in the playground of psychological thrillers.

I highly recommend renting "The Social Network" when it hits dvd/bluray this tuesday.

  6. i forgot about "Never Let Me Go", i found that to be a really powerful and haunting film and definitely is one of the best of the year... it'd be #11 if my list went that far.
